Arsenal Football Club
Arsenal Football
Club
was founded in 1886 as
Dial Square before being
renamed as Royal Arsenal,
Woolwich Arsenal and the
finally Arsenal. They began
playing at various locations
around the Woolwich
area in South London,
before moving onto
Highbury
Stadium in 1913. Arsenal
continued
to play at the world famous
Highbury stadium for the
following 93 years,
until 2006 when they
relocated to their current
home, the Emirates Stadium
in North
London. Arsenal FC have a
massive fan-base, who
hold a string of long standing
rivalries with several
other clubs. The most
famous of these is with
the old enemy and north
London neighbours
Tottenham Hotspur, with
whom Arsenal contest the
world
famous “North London
derby” at least twice
per season.
Arsenal are
one of the richest clubs in
English football. Arsenal
regularly perform in front of
more than 60,000
(which by London
standards is very good), and
are beaten only by
Manchester
United in the attendance
tables for not only England,
but throughout Britain
as well. Arsenal’s record
attendance in all
competitions was a huge
73,295 which was achieved
whilst
playing a League Division 1
match against Sunderland on
the 9th
March 1935. This record
looks set to remain for some
time as their current
home the Emirates
Stadium has the capacity to
hold only
60,355.
Arsenal
finished fourth in
the Premiership last season
and would have been
disappointed not to of
lifted a trophy for yet
another year. With such a
fantastic team, Arsene
Wenger's
cool determination and half
of north London behind them
every week, surely
they can avoid any
mishaps this year and bring
home some
silverware.
