Chelsea
Football Club
were formed and entered the
football league during
the year of 1905. For many
years the Blue’s seasons were
uneventful, and it
wasn’t until 50 years later
that they managed to secure
their first trophy
which arrived in the form
of the League title. The club
then enjoyed a
string of successes during
the late 60’s and early 70’s as
their popularity
grew. During this era,
Chelsea and their Kings road
following were to be
known as the most stylish
in England.
Following this
period and during the
80’s and 90’s, Chelsea FC
became known as one of the
biggest under-achievers
in
English
football. For a
club that had an endless list of
house hold names
among their ranks, the
amount of silver-ware arriving
back at Stamford
Bridge was
considered “less than
satisfactory” by many of their
loyal fans.
It
wasn’t until 2003 when
Russian billionaire Roman
Abramovich purchased the
club, that a real turn around
in Chelsea’s fortune
was to be revealed. With
his endless source of funds he
approved what was to
be the biggest spending
spree ever witnessed in world
football. The super
stars that arrived at
Stamford Bridge
would go on
to secure Chelsea’s claim
to a spot as one of the big
four in
English
football, and a
major force in
Europe.
Last
season Chelsea finished third
in the Premiership
and
were semi-finalists in the
Champions
League. Chelsea
did manage to win the
2008/09
Carling Cup
final
at Wembley
Stadium after
beating the current
holders at the time
Tottenham
Hotspur. Chelsea
FC will be hoping to get
their hands on more
silver-ware this season,
especially
with the arrival of
new manager Carlo
Ancelotti.
