Manchester City
Football
Club
Manchester City
FC were originally
formed
in the year 1880, although
they
didn’t
become known as Manchester
City
until
fourteen years later in 1894.
The
club
has twice won the League
Championship,
they have won the
FA
Cup four times, the
League Cup
twice
and the European Cup
Winners Cup
on one
occasion. City’s most
successful
period
was during the late 1960s and
early
1970s, when they managed to
win
several
major trophies under the
management team
of Joe Mercer and his
assistant Malcolm
Allison. The club was
also
blessed with great players
such as
Colin
Bell and Francis
Lee.
However,
the club
has not won a major honour
since
1976. Manchester City’s
decline
led to
relegation twice in three years
in the
1990s, meaning that they
spent
one
season in the second division
which
is the
third tier of
English
football. However, the
club
has
since regained
Premier
League status, the level
at
which
they have spent the majority
of
their
history.
Mark
Hughes
is now in control of the team,
so
will he
and his millions be able to
change
City’s fortunes and bring
some
silver-
ware back to
Eastlands?
The forth-coming season
will
reveal their
fate.
