stadium in the Trafford area
of Greater Manchester,
England,
and is the home of the world
famous football club;
Manchester United F.C. Old
Trafford has been the club's
permanent residence since
the year 1910, with the
exception of an eight-year
absence from 1941 to 1949
following the bombing of
the stadium in the Second
World War. During this period,
the club shared Maine
Road with local rivals, Manchester
City.
The
ground has frequently hosted
FA Cup
semi-final matches as a
neutral venue, as well as
hosting several England
international fixtures whilst
the new Wembley
Stadium was under
construction. It has also
hosted matches at the 1966
FIFA
World Cup and Euro 96, as
well as the 2003 UEFA Champions
League Final.
Behind Wembley
Stadium, Old Trafford
has the largest capacity of
any British football
stadium at just over 76,000,
and is the only UEFA 5-star
rated facility in England.
